Rym Bouaridj, Avionics Electrical Engineer

“I am proud to have contributed to Ariane 6’s historic inaugural flight ”

This is her first job… and her first campaign: Rym is the youngest member of the team, but she is up to the task! I love technical challenges, complex circuits… As the technical authority on Arianes 6’s inaugural flight, I have plenty to do! Each payload has about twenty interfaces to connect for power, telemetry, experiment initiation, sending separation commands, and even the heating system.Rym arrived at the end of 2023 and quickly got into the thick of things: a few months later, she headed to Kourou for the satellite integration!

Rym was thus in the clean room to oversee the integration and electrical connection of the passengers. I was there to oversee any changes from the specifications. I am proud to have contributed to this historic mission and I am already working on the next launches of Ariane 6.

Jérôme Dupré, Satellite Environment Specialist

“I see the satellites up close during the tests”

Jérôme faces a double challenge before each launch: I must provide clients with the assurance that the launcher will not subject their satellite to forces beyond its limits. For this, I provide them with a detailed overview of environments: vibrations, shocks, accelerations… In short, everything that stresses a satellite during launch and flight. But I also need to demonstrate to launcher authorities that the ‘risk’ of carrying payloads is identified and controlled. For this, standards are defined, and I attend satellite tests to verify their compliance.

The first Vega, the first Soyuz, the last Ariane 5… In 14 years, Jérôme has witnessed the preparation of several historic launches. And Ariane 6’s inaugural flight was no exception! We divided the tasks to handle the different types of passengers. In total, there were 8 specialists just for the flight environment topics!

Véronique Loisel, Payload Project Manager

“With the right people and best team work, we can go beyond what’s possible”

A conductor who coordinates activities, checks satellite/launcher technical compatibility, and ensures everything is ready for the big day“: this is how Véronique describes her role as project manager.I hand over to the mission leader and UPCOM(*) after the final Operations meeting, marking the end of the campaign preparation.” Specializing in guidance, control, and telemetry, Véronique was UPCOM before becoming a project manager.

My technical background allows me to communicate with clients and Arianespace experts. This is important as I coordinate very technical topics. Internal interactions are very rich and my counterparts are always very responsive.

Speaking of which, an anecdote comes to her mind: “It was in 2023, during the JUICE campaign. We had missed the first launch slot and were approaching the second one. Overnight the orbital experts managed to calculate something that would normally haven take several weeks! This shows that with the right people and best team work we can go beyond what’s possible.
